Overview[]
The 1887-88 season was Fulham's (then known as Fulham St Andrew's) fifth in regard to organised football.
Entering the West London Cup as defending champions, they lost out in a replayed Final against Oaklands. They entered a second cup competition for the first time in the club's history, as they fell at the first hurdle in the London Junior Cup, with a defeat at home to 2-0.
The arrival of George Pearce was a welcome one, and a player who played for the club over the following ten years. He initially replaced Tom Norman at right half. Tom remained at the club for several years to come, but this would mark his gradual decline in appearances for the first team.
This season saw an marked increase in attendances as the club gained more and more popularity within the local area. They would regularly attract crowds between 400-600, which was far more than the double-figure numbers that they would have attracted only three or four years prior.
