Overview[]

The 1892-93 season was Fulham's 11th season playing football and as an amateur outfit. They joined the newly formed West London League which marked the clubs first season in which they played league football and ended as champions.

The season started poorly with heavy defeats in friendly matches at Windsor & Eton and Chesham Generals. However, the first West London League fixture against Southall ended in a 3-1 victory at the Half Moon with new signing Horace Wilkins scoring two and Jim Shrimpton with the other. Unfortunately, the details of this first league season are incomplete in the West London Observer and West London Advertiser.

The only new players were centre forwards Horace Wilkins and Gerald Waring from St Mary's College, Chelsea. Will King returned to the club and HW Peet appeared in some games at left back. Rev Gilbert Monty Hall of St John's Vicarage, Walham Green who had attended St John's College, Oxford, played some games at full back.

Fulham's record in the West London League was - P 18, W 16, D 2, L 0, F 44, A 8, Pts 34. They remained unbeaten all season and dropped only two points in a 3-3 draw at Kildare and a 2-2 draw at Queens Park Rangers in early October and won the next 15 games on the trot. One of the goals at Kildare was described as being rushed through when the Fulham players pushed the goalkeeper over the line as he held the ball.

When Fulham played at St Albans in November 1892 in a friendly match, the crowd turned ugly at the end of the game and threw stones at the Fulham players - one of which hit Tubby Carter. After beating Salisbury (Fulham) in the West London Observer Cup semi-finals, they met Queens Park Rangers in the final. At the National Athletic Ground at Kensal Rise, Rangers won a closely fought final 3-2.
