Alfie Mawson played for Fulham from 2018 until 2022. A ball playing centre back, he joined the club for £15 million from Swansea City in August 2018. He was called up to the full England squad in March 2018, though failed to earn a cap.

Career[]

Before Fulham[]

Fulham (2018-2022)[]

Alfie officially joined after much speculation on 2 August 2018 for a reported fee of £15 million. Initially recoving from an injury, he made his debut in a 2-0 win in the EFL Cup against Exeter City in late August, before his League debut several days later away at Brighton in a 2-2 draw.

Alfie struggled with injuries during his debut season with the club and was kept out for most of the remainder of the season after Christmas following a knee problem which was widely reported at the time as being a freak injury, sustained by putting his boots on. He returned to participate in the last few matches of the 2018-19 season.

He managed 28 appearances in the 2019-20 season, and was once again injured in the latter part of the season and replaced by Michael Hector in the heart of defence. After the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, he returned to the matchday squad via the substitutes' bench but failed to make an appearance.

On 6 September 2020, he was loaned to Bristol City in the Championship for the entirety of the 2020-21 season. Unfortunately for Alfie, he injured his knee badly just over a month into his loan and underwent surgery shortly afterwards. However, he recovered well once more and returned to playing shortly after the new year in 2021.

He made a return to the first team squad in 2021-22 under new head coach Marco Silva, and made his first League start for nearly two years in a calamatous 4-1 loss away at Coventry City on 2 October 2021.

After failing to break into Marco Silva's first team on a full term basis, Alfie was one of a number of playres released by the club in the summer of 2022.

After Fulham[]

After his release from Fulham, Alfie joined League One side Wycombe Wanderers on 11 August 2022. After making twenty appearances for the club, after further injury concerns, he made the decision to retire from playing in February 2023 aged just 29.
