Bob Tannahill was a right winger who played at Fulham from 1901 until 1904. Nicknamed the "Kilmarnock featherweight" he was a skilful forward who joined from Millwall Athletic.

Career[]

Before Fulham[]

Bob was born in Kilmarnock in 1870, and it was here where he grew up, joining Kilmarnock as a player when he was 19 years old at the start of the 1889-90 season. He spent over three and a half years here until he decided to make the move down south to England, a move that was very popular with the Scottish players of the time looking to earn money from the ever-growing professional game.

He joined Bolton Wanderers in 1893, who were playing in the First Division at the time and were amongst the best clubs in the country. He reached and featured in the 1894 FA Cup Final with them but ran out 4-1 losers to Notts County at Goodison Park.

When he lost his place to Scottish international Billy Thompson, he made the decision to move further south and signed for the up and coming Tottenham Hotspur on 5 May 1897.

Bob would find it hard to settle at any one club and moved his way from Spurs after one season, to Millwall for the 1898-99 season, then up to Chesterfield Town for 1899-00 and back to Millwall once more for another season.

Fulham (1901-1904)[]

Bob signed for Fulham on 14 May 1901, ahead of the 1901-02 season. He gained Southern League medals whilst with the club as Fulham were twice Division Two champions, but failed to win their 'test match' on both occasions.

In May 1903, after the second failure for promotion, the club had decided to apply for a vacant spot left in the Southern League Division One - but in order to 'qualify' they had to prove to the committee of the League that they could field a first class team and so went out buying many top players from across the country. This left Bob, and many of his teammates to either leave or fight for a place in the team.

Bob stayed for the 1903-04 season but found first team football very hard to come by, and he departed at the end of the campaign.

After Fulham[]

Bob would go on to play for Grays United and Oldham Athletic before his retirement from playing in 1906, aged 36.

In his later years, he was the publican of the Grapes Inn in Water Street, Bolton in the mid-1920's.
