Cédric Soares played for Fulham as a right back in 2023 on loan from Arsenal. A Portuguese international, he joined the club for the remainder of the 2022-23 season in the January transfer window.

Career

Before Fulham

Although born in Germany, Cédric had Portuguese parents and they moved back to Portugal when he was two years old. He joined Sporting's youth system when he was just seven years old, signing his first professional contract with them in 2010. He made his first team debut on 8 May 2011in the Primeira Liga, starting in a 1-0 loss to Vitória de Setúbal.

Aged 20, he spent the following season (2011-12) on loan to Académica, where he made 24 league appearances. Upon his return to Lisbon, he became the first choice right back under several managers over the next few seasons. He would then go on to make his international debut in 2014, before he left to join Southampton in the summer of 2015 for a fee in the region of £5 million.

He spent five years at St Mary's, where he garnered over 100 league appearances for Southampton. During his stay with the Saints, he had two short loan spells - one with Inter Milan in 2019, before a move to Arsenal in 2020. After a succesful loan spell with Arsenal, they decided to sign him in June 2020 on a free transfer after his contract was up at Southampton.

He found himself to be in and out of the team at Arsenal, and in the first half of 2022-23 he was used sparingly by the manager Mikel Arteta and was allowed to leave on loan in the January 2023 transfer window.

Fulham (2023)

Cédric joined Fulham from Arsenal on 31 January 2023 (deadline day), in a loan deal that would run until the end of the 2022-23 season. He made his debut on eleven days later in a 2-0 win against Nottingham Forest at Craven Cottage, coming on as a late substitute.

He made a total of eight appearances for the club in all competitions, mainly as a backup to the impressive Kenny Tete.
