Darren Bent played as a striker for Fulham on loan from Aston Villa for the 2013-14 season. He was signed a day before the opening match of the season and made his debut a week later against Arsenal. A proven goalscorer at the highest level, he had also won several England caps before his move to Craven Cottage. Unfortunately, his time at the club wasn't successful and he only managed three league goals and at times was kept on the bench as manager Felix Magath preferred younger players such as Cauley Woodrow and Moussa Dembélé.

Career[]

Before Fulham[]

Fulham (2013-2014)[]

Darren signed on a season-long loan at the start of the 2013-14 season. He made an impact straight away as he scored 20 minutes into his debut off the bench at home to Arsenal. Shortly afterwards he helped Fulham through into the fourth round of the League Cup after scoring the second in a 2-1 win over Everton, and just over a week later scored the only goal in an important victory over Stoke.

Unfortunately for Darren, this was about as good as it was going to get during his time at the club, as Martin Jol, Rene Meulensteen and Felix Magath all started leaving him on the subs bench more and more often as the quality of his play on the pitch diminished. The fans general opinion of Bent was that he was underachieving and that he had lost his finishing touch. He did manage a goal in each of the FA Cup matches against Norwich in January 2014, with a header in the first match before scoring the first goal in a 3-0 win in the replay. Darren found match time harder and harder to come by as the season wore on, with Felix Magath in charge. So much so, that both 19 year-old Cauley Woodrow and 17 year-old Moussa Dembélé had at times been selected ahead of him. He finished his time at Fulham with only three league goals to his name and Fulham were relegated after finishing in 19th place.
