Jay Stansfield played for Fulham as a striker from 2019 until 2024. Signed from Exeter City in the summer of 2019, he departed on the last day of the 2024 summer transfer window for £15 million (plus £5 million in add-ons) to Birmingham City of League One, smashing the third tier transfer record. He has represented England at U21 level to date.
Jay spent his early development in Exeter City's academy, where his father Adam had been a professional footballer for four years.
Fulham (2019-2024)[]
Jay signed for Fulham on 1 August 2019 from Exeter City, and joined up with the U18 squad.
He got off to a fantastic start to his Fulham career, bagging plenty of goals for the academy, and earned himself a surprise call up to the first team squad on 4 January 2020. He then came off the bench the same day to make his professional debut during a 2-1 win over Aston Villa at Craven Cottage.
Unfortunately, Jay picked up an ankle injury early in the the 2020-21 season which required surgery and was out of action for four months. He returned to match action on 23 January 2021, coming off of the bench during an U18 match against Brighton, in which he scored minutes after he came on.
He made his first start in the first team in a 2-0 win at Birmingham City in the EFL Cup on 24 August 2021, in which he scored the opening goal with a fantastic strike to the top corner from the edge of the box. A few months later, Jay suffered a bad knee injury which required surgery in November 2021.
After returning from injury and spending pre-season with the first team squad in 2022, Jay made his Premier League debut in a 0-0 draw away at Wolverhampton Wanderers in the second match of the season. After a few more appearances with the first team, on 2 September 2022 he was loaned back to former club Exeter City in League One for the rest of the season.
On 24 August 2023, it was announced by the club that Jay has signed a new four-year contract and that a season-long loan deal to Championship club Birmingham City had been agreed. He had a strong spell with the West Midlands club, bagging 12 league goals in 42 appearances.
After returning to Fulham in the summer of 2024, he spent pre-season with the first team and made his first appearance for the club in nearly two years when he came on as a late substitute during a 1-0 loss to Manchester United at Old Trafford in the league opener. He then scored his second goal for the first team on 27 August 2024 - again it was against his now-former club Birmingham City in the EFL Cup; the same as his first for the side.
After Fulham[]
After several rejected offers from Birmingham City for Jay, Fulham finally accepted a shock bid of £15 million plus £5 million in add-ons late on the final day of the 2024 summer transfer window. He signed a seven year contract with the Blues just days after scoring against them, in a deal that saw the third tier transfer fee record broken by a substantial amount.
