Josh Maja is a striker who played for Fulham on loan from Bordeaux during the 2020-21 season. Previously an academy player at the club, he returned in February 2021 to help the team remain in the Premier League during the 2020-21 season. Although born and bred in England, he has made one international appearance for Nigeria in 2019.

Career[]

Before Fulham[]

Josh was a part of Crystal Palace's academy until the age of 11, where he was then welcomed by Fulham in May 2010. He spent three years with the club until he moved north to play for Manchester City for a season, despite still being formally registered with Fulham. Neither club decided to offer Josh a scholarship but Sunderland did in July 2015.

After earning his first professional contract with Sunderland in May 2016, Josh went on to become a first team regular for the Black Cats - his first professional goal coming against Fulham, during a 1-0 win against his former club. After Sunderland were relegated from the Championship in 2017-18, he remained with them to help achieve promotion back at the first time of asking.

Josh scored a total of 16 goals in 30 League appearances at the start of 2018-19, which alerted him to many bigger clubs. He would later move to Bordeaux in Ligue 1 for a fee of around £1.5 million at the end of the January 2019 transfer window.

Fulham (2021)[]

Josh returned to Fulham as he signed in the last moments of the January 2021 transfer window on loan until the end of the 2020-21 season, in a bid to help the club stay in the Premier League.

After making a brief appearance off the bench to make his debut against West Ham United in a 0-0 draw, Josh marked his full debut a week later by scoring both goals in a 2-0 victory away at Everton - the first time the club had won a League match at Goodison Park at the 28th time of asking.

He was cruelly disallowed a goal during a 1-1 draw at home to Tottenham Hotspur when the ball was cleared directly at Mario Lemina's hand before falling to Josh, who finished well. His third goal for the club eventually came midway through April, when he converted a penalty kick in a 1-1 draw at Arsenal.

After Fulham[]

After struggling to return to Bordeaux's starting XI, Josh was sent back to England on loan once more, this time to Fulham's fellow-Championship side Stoke City on January transfer deadline day for the remainder of the 2021-22 season.
