Kevin McDonald played for Fulham from 2016 until 2021. A central midfielder, he was signed by Slaviša Jokanović in July 2016 from Wolverhampton Wanderers for around £1.25 million, earning international honours with Scotland whilst with the club in 2018.

Career

Fulham (2016-2021)

Kevin's signature was officially confirmed by the club on 22 July 2016. He made his debut in the league opener of 2016-17 against Newcastle United in what was an impressive 1-0 victory at Craven Cottage.

He became a mainstay in the heart of Fulham's midfield throughout his debut season with the club, ensuring a 6th placed finish and a spot in the Championship play-offs. In the 2017-18 season, his role took on more importance as he took the captains armband on a regular occurrence due to the ongoing injury problems of Tom Cairney being kept out of the team up until christmas time. He helped lead the team once more to the play-offs, finishing 3rd and part of the side that embarked on a club record 23-match unbeaten run in the league which culminated in promotion back to the Premier League.

Kevin signed a new two-year deal in on 27 July 2018 ahead of the new season, but unfortunately did not see much game time due to big money signings such as Jean Michaël Seri and André-Frank Anguissa. In the 2019-20 season, Kevin would feature more as a squad player as the team gained promotion via the Play-offs once more, though Kevin did not feature in the Final.

He did not feature at all in the 2020-21 season, and it was later explained by Kevin himself that he had been battling a kidney problem throughout his entire footballing career and underwent a successful kidney transplant at the end of the season, with his brother donating one of his kidneys.

He was released upon the expiry of his contract in June 2021.

After Fulham

After recovering from his kidney transplant, Kevin trained with Dundee United before signing a short-term deal with them on 1 February 2022, less than a year after his operation. He made several appearances for them before he was released the following summer.

Kevin then spent time back at Fulham, allowed to train with the U21 squad to keep fit and to help out with coaching. He found another club on deadline day, 31 January 2023, signing for Exeter City in League One.
